Maheno Ship Wreck – A 1905 built luxury passenger ship now rests on the east coast of Fraser Island.
Fresh Water Lakes – Lake Mckenzie is the largest of the 100 or more Fresh water Lakes, The beach sand of Lake Mckenzie is near pure silica.
Bush Walking – With an abundance of walking trails to suit all fitness levels, some may say bush walking is possibly the best way to explore the island.
4 Wheel Driving – although some parts of Fraser Island is accessed only by the walking trails. 4 Wheel Drive scenic and self-drive tours are a great way to get around on Fraser Island allowing you to explore the island and access the more secluded areas.
Water sports and Fishing – Motor equipment is not allowed on the island however with the available water sports on offer you will appreciate to non-motor sporting activities which include canoeing and Catamarans, Fishing and Snorkeling. Equipment hire is available for all sports.
Wildlife – Fraser Island is the home of many Bird Species including migratory species. Fraser Island Flora – believed to be the only place on earth where tall rain forest grows in sand. Over 850 species of plants, 1000 year old trees, salt tolerant and fresh water plant all life share the habitat.
Getting to Fraser Island from Airlie Beach
Fraser Island is located alongside the southern coast of Queensland about 200 kilometres (120 miles) north Brisbane.
The township of Hervey Bay is the gateway to Fraser Island and provides access via Air and barge (including vehicle transport) to the island.
From Airlie Beach, Fraser island lies about 670 kilometers south east (direct line) or 875 Kilometers (543 miles) by Road.
Fraser Island is also directly accessible from Rainbow Beach & Brisbane as most Tours offer transfers to and from these locations.
