Segways in Airlie Beach

May 16, 2015 By Airlie Beach Online

16 May

New to Airlie Beach is the Rainforest Segway tour!  What a way to visit the rainforest at Brandy Creek and be adventurous on a Segway.  Now that is something different.

Tour includes complimentary transfers from your accommodation, a tranquil morning tour from 9am-12noon, morning tea included with homemade yummy cakes and you don’t have to worry about seasickness, as you are on land. The guide is fantastic highlighting the local flora and fauna and points out the interesting sites during the 9klm round trip. You will need a light jacket as the days get cooler in the winter months and they supply the bug spray and sunscreen, how’s that for service! We had 4 people on our tour but they said they will go with 2 or more.

If you prefer something in the afternoon, then there is the ‘Boardwalk Segway’ and a stop for some tapas and a cold beer/ wine at Barcelona’s on the way back.  Not too many, as you can’t drink and drive!

Prices are $129.00 pp for the morning tour and $99.00 for the afternoon tour.

Which overnight sailing boat in the Whitsundays would suit me?

April 25, 2015 By Airlie Beach Online

25 Apr

In the travel industry we are often asked this question.  To make it easy for you, it can be narrowed down to a few questions.

  • Would you like less than 12-15 people on the boat?
  • Would you like more than 15 people and a little partying?
  • Would you like 25+ people, party boat and basic facilities?
  • Are you happy to share with others or prefer your own private cabin?

Most of the overnight sailing boats that offer 1,2 or 3 nights out on the water will fit into one of these categories above and we as a local tour specialist can provide all the information suitable to your requests.  We will provide you with a list of all the boats available on the dates you are available to travel and ensure that you have all the information.

There are a lot of fantastic boats to choose from and sometimes they are not available on the day suitable to your travel dates. If you have flexible dates then it makes it a little easier.

Not everyone is suited to overnight sailing and you will see just as much on the day tours if you want a warm comfortable bed on land at night. You can always try a 2 day / 1 night overnight sailing tour as you will get two full days on the water and 1 night at sea.

Allow Airlie Beach Online to take care of your travel plans and where ever possible, we will offer a discount, standby rates if available or can package the tours and accommodation.

Can I snorkel and dive in the Whitsundays?

March 28, 2015 By Airlie Beach Online

28 Mar

The majority of day tours in the Whitsundays offer snorkelling as part of the day tour.  There are diving options at the Great Barrier Reef and also around the Whitsunday Islands with Mantaray and some overnight sailing tours.  Not all operators can provide diving and sometimes it is another operator that provides the diving service by meeting the sailing boat at a destination point.  It is called a ‘rendezvous dive’ and is an extra cost.

For those that are certified divers, ensure you bring your Padi card and log books with you.  Introductory divers will be taken through the essential requirements to ensure you are suitable to try diving.  There may be medical reasons as to why the instructor will not allow you to participate.  It is not for everyone and especially if you cannot equalise your ears.  You may have this problem when you fly as well.

You will always be taken to a snorkelling destination for this activity.  Whitehaven Beach does not offer snorkelling as it is a sandy beach and there is not any coral close enough to snorkel.

The tours that offer diving are;

Is there any land based tours in Airlie Beach?

March 12, 2015 By Airlie Beach Online

12 Mar

There sure is!

How would you like to go on a crocodile safari and see the crocodiles in their natural habitat.  Cruising up the Proserpine River is a relaxing way to see them and you are safe in the boat with good viewing.  Nature is amazing when you are looking for something in particular.  It just blends in with the habitat and you need to identify whether it is a log or a crocodile.  I learnt so much about crocodiles that I know you will not be disappointed.  Winter are the better months as the crocodiles come out on the river banks to sun themselves.

Segways – take a tour through the rainforest or along the boardwalk in the afternoon with a stop for tapas.  Segways are the new way to get around rather than be on foot.  Learn about the rainforest near Cedar Creek falls and enjoy morning tea with scrumptious cakes cooked by a local. The afternoon will be a journey along the boardwalk and foreshore area from Airlie Beach to Cannonvale and return. Work up a thirst to be soothed with a drink and tapas, and if you want to stay longer to enjoy some more beverages, it is not problem because the stafff will return to collect the segway.

Skydiving – calling all thrill seekers!  First timers can start at 6,000ft, those that are a little more daring can try 8,000ft and for those that are daredevils 14,000ft.  Complimentary transfers from your accommodation to the jump zone are on offer. What a great way to see Airlie Beach.

There is also a  1 hour reef and island scenic flight to see the Great Barrier Reef from above, the Heart Reef and Whitehaven Beach.  You won’t get your feet wet here.

The Proserpine Museum is a short drive out to Proserpine to learn about the history of the area.  Great artifacts and the volunteers do a great job explaining the history and telling a few stories.
